Local Area Energy Plan
Community Conversations

Callington areat
Cornwall Climate Action Coalition are hosting more community conversations. This time the theme is Energy. Conversations will begin in 2026 and take place across Cornwall.

The conversations will be informed by the Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP), which sets out how Cornwall and Isles of Scilly can reduce its fossil fuels, by making greater use of our local resources (solar, wind, geothermal and biomethane). The plan is going to have major implications on how we all work, live, travel, and run our community facilities. Community Conversations are an opportunity for ordinary people to have their say on how these changes might impact them. Click to read the summary document

What is the LAEP?

The LAEP focuses on 6 areas, including electricity, heating and transport. It takes into account local needs and opportunities such as our rural and island setting, building types, where we get our energy from today, and what energy we will need in the future.
As it is, the LAEP suggests how things could be, not how they will be. The upcoming community conversations will be an opportunity to influence the implementation of the plan so that it reflects the needs of Cornwall residents.

What is a community conversation?

Community Conversations allow ordinary people to have their say on issues which are important to them and their community. By coming together with resolve and respect real change can happen.
The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Climate Commission and Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Leadership Board are expecting the key points and priorities from these conversations to be formally fed back to them to inform the development of the LAEP.
Conversations run for 3 hours, and follow a 2-question format. Click here for a typical agenda.
